One Piece, Three Ways: The Leather Pants

Leather pants are pretty bold for fall. They are super trendy, but somehow classic at the same time.  Here are some maybe not so out there ways to rock these pants.

Look #1: Fair Isle Sweaters are staples for winter. So are some luxe suede boots. Throw in a third texture with some leather. Fun and festive.
Look #3: The peplum top is fun and flattering with some straight leather pants. Throw on a statement necklace and black pumps, and you've got a great look to go out in.
Look #3: The sweater and bow flats. The look of the pants is instantly softened with a cozy sweater and the fun bow flats.

Can you rock this look? Will you dare?!

MYMM: Politics

Religion and Politics: Two things we aren't supposed to talk about, but somehow are always talked about, especially now. Avoid being rude and obnoxious like others have been recently!

1. Don't ever tell anyone what they believe is wrong. There is no right or wrong way, it's what you believe. That's honestly one of the rudest comments anyone could make!
2. Take a chill pill on Twitter. Unless your twitter account is politically based always, there is no need to tweet 20 times per presidential debate, it's a good way to get unfollowed.
3. If you say something about your personal beliefs, be ready to back it up. That's all part of being an educated and well read young person. Don't say you like Romney/Obama/Any other candidate without being able to say why. People will ask.
4. Avoid pushing your beliefs hard on anyone, especially in class. It's a good way to drive everyone crazy. State your beliefs, but respect others' beliefs.
5. Please, don't let others do these things back to you!

Keep going, just a little bit longer and the election will be over!

Live From New York...It''s Saturday Night!

All political beliefs aside, this time is stressful. We could all use some humor during the time of political commercials and debates on debates on debates. The SNL skits always crack me up.

Have you seen any of these? Do they make you laugh? Let us know!

Car Supplies For Winter

Now that it is finally cooling down, I thought I would be a little bit of a mom and make a quick list of things you should keep in your car for the upcoming winter! For those of us that live in cold weather, it's so important to be ready!
1. Snow/Ice Scraper: Especially if you park outside!
2. Blanket: When you're freezing or a random football game.
3. Salt: To melt ice off your car (probably special ice melt that doesn't damage paint.)
4. Lotion: Hello dry skin.
5+6+7 Inexpensive Hat/Gloves/Scarf:Pick these up from Old Navy or Target and just have them in case you get stuck waiting somewhere.
8. Old Sweatshirt: It's post party and you're freezing in your LBD. Toss one on to drive home.

What do you keep in the car during winter?

Review: Tarte Lip Surgence Collection

If you're anything like me, makeup is always something fun to try out. Especially lip products. I've never tried a lip stain, but I think I am now addicted. (this is NOT a sponsored post or review.) I picked up this Tarte 5 Piece Lip Surgence Collector's Set a few weekends ago, and I've now tried every shade. I love it. at $34, it's such a steal. One of these goes for $24 alone, which is way too pricy, considering the Revlon options that are supposed to be wonderful. Here is my review on each shade.

Escape: Pretty sheer but shimmery, lasted a fairly long time. My least favorite.
Enchanted: My favorite. So great, lasted me over 5 hours, and fading appeared to be even.
Exposed: A great nude, easy to layer. A good basic.
Sweet: Fun and well, sweet. Lasted about 5 hours and is pretty sheer.
Elite: Another one of my favorites. So fun and bright, again lasted 6 hours.

This is a good steal, if you think you might be interested in at least two of these, you're saving
$12 by purchasing this set. Overall, so happy with these! Also, I must say they are moisturizing, but I don't know about 6000% because I don't even know what that would feel like.

Have or will you try this? Let us know!

Brooches Under $50

Brooches-a fun and inexpensive way to add some bling to a simple look. Here are our favorites under $50!

Kenneth Jay Lane jewelry / Tasha crystal jewelry / Stella & Dot chain jewelry / Tasha crystal jewelry / Carolee jewelry / Pearl brooch / Forever 21 rhinestone jewelry / Forever 21 rhinestone jewelry

I think I might have to pick one up this weekend. Someday, I hope to get some of my grandmother's gorgeous ones, but for now, I think I'll buy an inexpensive one to pin on the lapel of my blazers! I personally love this bumble bee brooch! Do you rock these?

How To: Be Adored By College Reps

It's crucial for every high school student, either now or in the future. College admission reps meet hundreds of prospective students every year. Here is how to make yourself stand out!

1. Talk to them in person every chance you get. Juniors and Seniors especially: if that college rep to your dream school visits your school, you better be there. It's bad policy to show up as a senior and be highly interested in a college: already visited, applied, etc. But if the rep doesn't know your name, what good is it?
2. Ask them questions. Ask them how they like your city and what they loved about college. Seriously, they love it because it shows genuine interest.
3. Follow up every visit/conversation with a note. Our guideline for notes: email for a brief meeting, note for an official interview/visit/presentation. You want them to remember you right away, before they meet more students! Email is much more effective for a casual hello at a college fair than for an interview, in which a handwritten thank you note is imperative.
4. Be genuine. Don't say cliche things. Ask genuine questions that ARE NOT ON THE WEBSITE. Seriously, if you ask how big the college is, you come off uninformed.
5. Smile, give a good handshake. Smile when you meet them. It's nice to meet you Ms. Smith! or, How is life going to Wesleyan, Mr. Daniels? Shake hands when you start and end the conversation. It's crazy how many teenagers don't do this.
6. Act excited about the college. An admission rep (who I became close with) told me that all reps would love me if I acted so sincerely interested and excited about the college. I think it's true, it helps.
7. Look neat. College fairs or presentations are not the time to look like a mess. Put on some cords and a sweater, and you will stand out as the girl who cared about her appearance and isn't wearing her lulus and a sweatshirt.

Be your lovely selves!

Exfoliate!

It's finally cooling off-the air is getting drier and drier as the days pass. It's so important to exfoliate your skin at this point of the season! Here is my favorite basically FREE exfoliator!

Drum roll...SUGAR!

A family friend has the best skin ever and she's been doing this since she was a teenager, so my mom and I decided to give it a try, and we are addicted. It's free and easy, it's pretty natural and has no fragrance.
But, we do not recommend the use of this on your face.
Try it out and let us know! I use it once-twice a week!

Splurge or Steal

Last weekend, a friend of mine was sporting this AE boots, and I could not believe it! They look so good and so high quality. While $80 isn't a "total steal", we think it's a good price for riding boots!

Love these or leave these?

Brush Up

Ah, makeup brushes. I received a request to post the makeup brushes I actually use and which ones I use for what product. I am going to flat out say that I use the absolute bare minimum in brushes. I probably should have more than I actually have. My mom only uses Bobbi Brown brushes, and she bought me several when I first started to wear makeup. I still use all of them to this day and I have added more to my collection! All brushes and photos are found on Bobbi Brown's website under the brush section here.

EYES:
Eye Shadow Brush-Use for basically all eye shadows.

Eye Liner-Used to apply cake liner. (also for gel, but I don't use gel.)

Cream Shadow-for applying cream shadows.

Angle Eye Liner-Used for applying all over/crease.

FACE:
Face Blender-Used to blend out face products, and to apply my shimmer brick.

Bronzer-used for bronzer.
Blush-used for applying blush.

Others that I don't own but many people would use:
-Foundation
-Concealer

I love my Bobbi brushes, but they are expensive. Let us know if you have other brands that maybe are less expensive that you still love!

TEXTure Me

With the coming of fall comes many new textures. Suede, velvet, corduroy, cable knit...oh my! Here are three "textu(re)ally" interesting looks.

1. Silk + Leather + Suede: This look screams elegant and sophisticated. Great for a formal event, meeting, dinner...you name it!
2. Cable Knit + Corduroy + Python Leather: This look is so comfy and cozy for the fall, shopping, church, lunch, work or internship. This look travels for miles
3. Denim + Velvet + Leather: My favorite look-velvet leggings are such a fun twist on the normal leggings we reach for when we thrown on a denim shirt. Throw on some boots and you're all set.

TIPS
1. Do not mix suede/velvet/corduroy as a general rule.
2. If you're playing it up with textures, keep color toned down.
3. Please do not wear an outfit all in one texture. (head to toe velvet or suede...not so great.)
4. Don't wear the same texture for pants and shoes.
5. A scarf is an easy way to throw in texture fast.
6. Have fun with it, of course!

Do you love to play up texture? Let us know what looks you love!

Hey I Heard You Were a WILD(fox)

So I have a confession. I am borderline obsessed with some Wildfox Couture Tops/Sweaters. They are so quirky and so unconventional, I truly cannot help it. While some of them are too far for me, I can't help but like a few.

Wildfox No.9 Love Potion: One of their most well known pieces!
Keys: Cute and comfortable.
Heart: One of the most well known pieces (if not the most well known) was everywhere last season. J.Crew made a version, Old Navy and so many more. I still kick myself for not getting one.
Be a Deer: very on trend for fall.
Montague: My inner love for Shakespeare comes out in this piece.
Hearts: Cute and sweet.

Is Wildfox too wild for you? Do you have any pieces? We'd love to know!

Scarf It Down

Scarves are without a doubt one of the best fall accessories. Here are some of our favorites!

J.Crew (my obsession, I broke down and bought this baby!)  jcrew.com
Lilly Pulitzer (I think Murfees are cute, but overrated. I have one that I snagged on sale.)  lillypulitzer.com
lululemon athletica (the coziest thing.) - lululemon.com
Old Navy (cute cablekint.)  oldnavy.gap.com
Target (python print.) - target.com
Burberry (I am the first to admit that I am obsessed with these classic scarves, especially the whitescarves. I am also the first to admit that I won't be getting one in the near future.) tessabit.com
Topshop (fun!) topshop.com
Topshop (relaxed and comfy.)topshop.com

Let us know what your favorites are!

Fall Outerwear

It's officially getting cooler. Temperatures are finally dropping. Could it be? It's about time to get out our fall outerwear! While we posted winter outerwear, fall is a little different! Here are our favorites.

1. Barbour Coat: This is a Beadnell, and pretty common. It seems to be a good layering jacket.
2. Puffy Coat: For those mornings when we run to Starbucks or home from the gym, a puffer coat can offer warmth, but it's much more casual.
3. Quilted/Puffer Vest: Another one of those great layering pieces!
4. Fleece: Everyone has their favorite, from Patagonia to Mountain Hardwear to Old Navy. Fleece jackets and pullovers are nice and comfy.
5. Rain Jacket: Any sort of rain jacket is crucial for those on college campuses! Good to keep on hand.
6. Peacoat: Whether you prefer short or long, pea coats are classic and will be worn for years to come!

What are your favorites pieces of outerwear for fall?

Get Well Soon

I received this question on tumblr: Anonymous asked: hey C-I love your blog and tumblr, you're so inspiring to me. I know you've dealt with much illness, and I have a friend who just got diagnosed with lymphoma. My friends and I want to put together a basket-but I would love some input from someone who knows the feeling of being hospitalized. thanks!

Safe to say, this made my day! Here are my suggestions:

-Pick a cute basket or reusable grocery bags!
Blankets: I still sleep with one that I got when I was 7 post op!!
iTunes Giftcards
DVDs: Please make them fun chick flicks. I got PS I Love You after a surgery, and I cried. Comedy is key.
Fun Magazines
PJ Pants: If you're recovering, you will be living in these! This is a great way to always have your friend think of you!
Coloring Books: Actually, these are fun. There are so many cute ones out there!
Colored Pens/Notepads/Notecards: Especially if you're like me and wrote a lot of thank you notes!
Fuzzy Socks
Nail Polish
Cute Cup: You have to really keep fluid in you, why not have a darling cup?
Lotion/Chapstick: For those of you with no hospital experience, your skin gets extremely dry. I got body butter from one of aunts one time, and it's now a tradition because it is SO helpful.

DO NOT:
Bring food. Unless you know what his/her dietary limitations are or if she has an appetite, it's useless. Plus, I cannot tell you how many ice cream/cookies/cupcakes/cake pops he/she will get. Same goes for candy, it is such a bummer when you cannot eat one of your favorites!
Bring anything hospital related. No. Please do not.
Flowers. This is totally personal, but I feel like flowers are not the best gift to give from a friend to a friend. I feel like they are less personal, even though it is a nice thought.

Hope this helped! Let us know what you think!
